Expertise

I study the intersection of multisensory hypersensitivity and chronic pain. I am the principal investigator of an NIH funded grant that studies the physiology and treatment of uterine pain conditions. Dysmenorrhea, period pain, is the leading cause of school/work absence and foremost risk factor for chronic visceral pain in reproductive age women. Our research has shown that the combination of menstrual pain and of multisensory hypersensitivity is associated with chronic pain.
